External Clutch Disengagement System

External Clutch Disengagement System for hydraulic clutches

The MEGA-Line External Clutch Disengagement System, also called “Marshal-Neutral” system, has been developed according to the respective FIA safety requirements for LMP as well as GTE to disconnect the drive train of stranded cars from outside of the car by e.g. the track marshals.

The system allows to open hydraulic clutches from outside of the car via a latching switch, triggering a pneumatic valve which opens the hydraulic clutch of the race car.

The system is integrated in the hydraulic clutch line between master cylinder and slave cylinder/release bearing and is powered with pressurized air (6 bar) via a Dash 4 fitting, sourced from e.g.

  • Linkage to pneumatic shift system
  • Integrated pressure reservoir
  • Separate, external pressure reservoir

All available MEGA-Line GCUs/compressors are normally capable to supply sufficient pressure and volume to operate all common race clutches via their integrated pressure reservoir.

Usage of the External Clutch Disengagement System in combination with the MEGA-Line 12V Battery Pack allows the system to open the clutch even with car master switch OFF.

The device can also easily be retrofitted in existing cars with very limited effort.

Given that the 2023 GT3 regulations are also incorporating this safety requirement, the External Clutch Disengagement System is the perfect solution for all new GT3 projects with an available pneumatic pressure source. A tailored GT3 version to comply with the different inputs to activate and deactivate the system is available, design reviewed ad confirmed by the respective FIA delegate.
